Panel SA: Public Ministry investigates damage to water plant after soil sinking in Maceió

by

The Federal Public Ministry opened an inquiry to determine whether there is a correlation between damage to the structure of a water treatment plant in Maceió and the case of the sinking of the soil attributed to the extraction of rock salt by Braskem that destroyed floors and cracked the walls of houses in several neighborhoods in the capital of Alagoas in 2018.

The petrochemical company says that the station is not on the map of risk areas for the Civil Defense of Maceió, but it has implemented a monitoring system at the site.

Sought by Panel SA, Braskem also claims that it signed a term of commitment to provide technical support.

Casal (Sanitation Company of Alagoas) says that it attributes the phenomenon of soil sinking to Braskem, but that it has been in dialogue with the petrochemical industry. He also claims that he authorized the carrying out of works to mitigate the problem at the station, to be carried out by a company hired by Braskem.
