#Hashtag: Brazilians debate what the ideal minimum wage would be

by

Presenter Raoni Oliveira, from TVE Bahia, posted the following question on Twitter this Monday (14): “What would be the ideal salary for you to live well, paying your bills, eating and with minimal comfort for your your leisure here in Brazil?”

The questioning is made in a context in which Brazilians saw their purchasing power decrease considerably: in the 12-month period up to February, the IPCA (National Broad Consumer Price Index) rose 10.54%.

According to the National Survey of the Basic Food Basket released by Dieese (Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies) in February, the current minimum wage should be R$ 6,012.18. The calculation considers the minimum amount necessary to meet the expenses of a worker with a family of four with food, housing, health, education, clothing, hygiene, transport, leisure and pension.

The responses to the tweet, for the most part, agree that the value of the minimum wage – currently at R$ 1,212.00 – is incompatible to support a family.

Priorities:

It is important to consider the cost of living in the region where you live.

Inflation is frightening.

And for you, what would be the ideal value? tell the sheet in the comments.
