The food and beverage industry promises to close the year with a 20% increase in investments in ESG compared to 2020, according to Abia (industry association), which brings together companies such as BRF, Ambev and Mondelez.
The goal is to allocate R$7.2 billion to environmental, social and governance actions in 2021, to reach 1% of the sector’s average annual revenue. The amount represents 30% of the total investments made by the food industry in the year.
In 2020, resources for ESG reached BRL 6 billion within the BRL 22.3 billion invested.
According to Abia, the companies have been working on projects for the reuse and correct disposal of waste, reduction of carbon emissions and rational use of water resources.
