One in twenty Greek households has applied for accession to energy saving programs that are currently running, the ‘Save 2025’ and “I change a heating system and water heater”.

According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the “saving” applications that have been submitted at various stages of the integration process are so far 66,530, while the second program has been submitted 130,057 applications (79,685 for water heater and 50,372 for heat pumps). The overall is 196,587 applications for 4.3 million, according to ELSTAT’s census, the number of households in the country. An indication of citizens’ interest in reducing energy expenditure and the problem created by rising energy prices in recent years.

“Save 2025” opened on January 8th and applications are submitted via the program website (https://exoikonomo2025.gov.gr) until 20.3.2025.

The program concerns buildings used as a main residence (house and individual apartments) and subsidies:

* Replacement of frames,

* Installing/upgrading thermal insulation,

* Upgrading heating/cooling system,

* System of hot water use using renewable energy sources (RES),

* Other energy saving interventions, such as the installation of smartthome and energy storage systems (batteries).

Correspondingly, the program “Changing Heating System and Water System” opened on January 13th and applications are also submitted until March 20 at https://lalazosistimathermansis-thermosifona.gov.gr

The program is aimed at households wishing to place the above equipment in their home (main or secondary residence, rented or assigned) and grants:

* The purchase of a new modern technology solar water heater, at 50% or 60%. The exact percentage is formed on the basis of income criteria.

* The purchase of a new heat pump system, at 50%.

* The execution of necessary additional placement of eligible equipment (eg shipping costs, installation costs, consumables and components, etc.), at 50% or 60% (depending on income criteria and if it is a water heater or heat pump).
