An exciting thriller resulted in the final of the TUI SOCCA Champions League under 12 category, which took place today (Sunday, October 19) at the main stadium of Sochora, Rethymnon.
At the height of the drama, the Vikings of Tbilisi, although they found themselves behind with a difference of two goals (3-5) against the National New Ceramics, they managed to equalize at the end of the regular time (5-5) and finally prevail in the penalty shoot-out with 2-1.
The team from Katerinis, who had won the domestic title in the final stage hosted in Loutraki, led 2-0 and 5-3 (led by Vassiliadis who scored four goals), but the Georgian champions fought back, turned the situation around and emerged victorious amid apotheosis.
The most valuable player of the under-12 tournament was David Mamedovi, while OFI Rethymnon won the bronze medal by defeating the Polish Six Nowy Tomysi II 4-1 in the match for the third place.
The TUI SOCCA Champions League Kids was a great success and showed the evolution of the sport at the academy level as well.
“It’s obvious that the guys are training well and training to be able to respond whether they’re playing 11-on-11 or in mini-soccer. I consider that the holding of this international tournament in Rethymnon, alongside the men’s event, is an added value for the sport” commented the coach of the national socca team, Giorgos Bastakis.
The action in the TUI SOCCA Champions League continued on Sunday with the matches of the play-ins and the stages of 32 and 16, while on Monday the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will be held, in the presence of the ambassador of the organization, veteran emblematic center forward and European champion in 2004, Angelos Charisteas.
At the same time, the Tournament of veterans over 40 years of age is being held, while on Tuesday and Wednesday, the SOCCA Aegean Cup will follow in parallel for men (Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, South Africa) and for women (Greece, Poland, Hungary, Lebanon).
Both events are held under the responsibility of the International SOCCA Federation and with the patronage and full support of the Ministry of Tourism, the Hellenic Tourism Organization, the Region of Crete, the Regional Unit of Rethymno, the Municipality of Rethymno, the Chamber of Rethymno and EPS Sala, a member of EPO.
