Who are not paid in spite of surpluses – the comfort of the State to delay repayments
By Vangelis Dourakis
They “inflate” month by month the debts of the State to private suppliers and taxpayers, a development that is also reflected in the relevant data of the State Treasury: 3%something that is not the case with taxpayers who, when they have arrears in the state, pay an interest rate 8.76% per year or 0.73% monthly.
This difference in the “penalty shoot -out” for arrears, possibly explains – as a degree – and why despite the surpluses displayed by state funds, the State continues to increase the “feasts” it puts on suppliers and taxpayers.
Debts… Mnemonic times
It is indicative that public debts to private suppliers and taxpayers “inflated” at levels that had years to touch: amounted to 3.44 billion eurosfrom € 3.05 billion which was a month earlier in December 2024.
With a 12.4% increase, the amount of State’s outstanding debts set a new record, as it is at a higher level since 2017, when taxpayers and suppliers were 3.32 billion euros. In other words, the debts of the state today are shaped by… Mnemonic levels.
Specifically, the states were € 3.05 billion in December 2024, EUR 2.8 billion in December 2023, EUR 2.37 billion in December 2022, EUR 1.9 billion in 2020 and 2021, 2 billion euros in 2018 and € 3.32 billion in December 2017.
Debt overdue, these amounts relating to Debts that had to be paid within 90 days However, they are not paid within this time.
To whom does the state owe taxes
The details of the State Treasury shows that the state’s arrears to individuals come from the following sources:
- Hospitals: Debts to individuals increased by EUR 154 million compared to December 2024, reaching € 1,318 billion. It is emphasized that their debts have swell in recent years, as from EUR 344 million in December 2019 before the pandemic amounted to EUR 502 million in 2020, EUR 606 million in 2021, € 907 million in 2022, EUR 1,319 billion in 2023 and EUR 1,164 billion at the end of 2024.
- Social Security Organizations: Their debts amounted to EUR 597 million from € 585 million accumulated in December 2024.
- OTA: Their arrears to third parties reached EUR 243 million from EUR 231 million in December 2024.
- Legal Entities of the General Government: Their debts reached € 194 million on the market of € 179 million in December 2024.
- Taxes: The pending refunds increased to EUR 915 million from EUR 731 million in December 2024. Of the total debts, € 205 million relates to direct taxes, EUR 570 million indirect and EUR 119 million rank in non -tax revenue. Of course, it should be noted here that AADE is looking for thousands of natural persons and businesses who are entitled to VAT and income tax refunds of more than 200m euros, but cannot … detect them as they have not stated IBAN and contact information to credit the money.
