The Chinese finance ministry announced on Wednesday that it is increasing duties in imports from the United States from 34% to 84%, in retaliation for the levy imposed by Washington.

Additional duties are imposed on all goods and will be in force from April 10.

China retaliation comes after Trump imposed yesterday, Tuesday and were put in place today additional reciprocal duties of 50% on China with the total rate now reaching 104%.

Earlier today, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lynn Jian pledged that China would take “decisive and effective measures” to safeguard its rights and interests.

“The United States continues to abuse duties to push China, China strongly opposes it and will never accept this kind of bullying,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said at a press conference.

If the US really wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiations, they should adopt an attitude of equality, respect and mutual benefit, Lynn said.

Lin added that “if the US insists on fighting a duty war and a trade war, China will surely fight until the end.”

The Ministry of Commerce noted that it does not want a trade war with the United States, but will be forced to fight with the world’s first economy if President Donald Trump continues to intensify commercial tensions, the Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday.

“There are no winners in a trade war,” the ministry said in a statement. “China does not want, but the government will never allow the legal rights and interests of the Chinese people to be affected or removed.”

The statement was accompanied by a White Paper on US-China trade ties released by the State Council Intelligence Office, which works with the media on behalf of the government.

“The US is using duties as a weapon to exert extreme pressure and pursue self -interest. This is a typical act of unilateral, protectionism and economic bullying, “Beijing said in the White Paper.
