Speaking on the issue, Vassiliki Adamidou, Lidl Greece’s Corporate Affairs Director, presented a comprehensive strategy for the transition to a more responsible and sustainable nutritional system. As he underlined, “nutrition is today one of the most important sustainability pillars – not only because of the impact on the environment, but also as a lever for social justice and public health.”

The global food system is responsible for almost 30% of total greenhouse gas emissions, while over -consumption of industrial foods, rich in sugar, fat and salt, is linked to the launch of chronic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Lidl Greece responds to this challenge with specific commitments:

• Increase of herbal products by 20% to 2030
• Reduce addition of sugar and salt by 20% to 2025
• Transparency and guidance of consumer through WWF Evaluation Tools
• Food safety and high quality standards at every stage of the productive chain
• Interruption of unhealthy products to children As early as 2023
