Regional minimum wage rises to R$ 1,284 in SP

by

The regional minimum wage in the state of São Paulo will be R$ 1,284 in 2022, according to a bill approved by the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday night (23). The value is higher than the R$ 1,212 of the national minimum.

The new salary can start to take effect in April, if Governor João Doria (PSDB) sanctions the project and publishes the law by the end of March.

The R$ 1,284 is guaranteed to workers who are part of the first salary range of the state floor, which includes categories such as domestic workers, construction workers and office assistants, among others, if there is no higher value defined in a collective agreement.

There is also a salary floor for the second range, which will be worth R$ 1,306 this year, for agricultural and forestry administrators, workers in hygiene and health services, heads of transport and communications services, purchasing and sales supervisors and technical sales agents, among other professionals who do not have a floor defined in the collective agreement of the category.

The approved readjustment was 10.3%, according to the IPC (Consumer Price Index) measured by Fipe (Economic Research Institute Foundation). The regional floor has not increased since 2019, when the value of the first tier was R$1,163.55 and the second tier, R$1,183.3.

Amendment at Alesp tried to raise the minimum wage to R$1,360 in the first range and R$1,380 in the second, but it was not approved. The justification of the deputies – most of the opposition parties – to propose a higher value was the fact that there has been no readjustment to the regional minimum since 2019. the text of the amendment.

The increase was approved according to the proposal sent by the state government. In the justification of the project, the Executive states that the proposed values derive from “studies carried out by the Secretariat of Economic Development”.

Message signed by secretary Patrícia Ellen da Silva says that the annual readjustment of the salary floor in São Paulo is usually done in November, according to the inflation of the previous 12 months. According to her, inflation from November 2020 to October 2021 was 10.18%, but the option was to readjust the minimum by 10.3%. However, there was no justification for the fact that, in 2020 and 2021, the State has not proposed a salary adjustment.

Employee salary allowance

In addition to the bill that readjusts the regional minimum, the deputies also approved a 10% salary bonus for state employees who earn less than the São Paulo minimum. The objective is to match the monthly salary to the regional floor.

The allowance must be granted when the employee’s monthly remuneration is less than R$ 1,320 for full-time, R$ 990 for regular and R$ 660 for part-time.

For civil servants subject to the basic working day or the specific working day, the supplementary allowance will be calculated based on the amount provided for the full working day.
