The travel balance in February 2025 showed a surplus of € 90.0 million, compared to a surplus of € 121.3 million in 2024, according to provisional data announced by the Bank of Greece. Specifically, by 0.5% in February 2025, travel receipts, which stood at EUR 297.1 million, compared to EUR 295.5 million in 2024, while an increase of 18.9% was also observed in travel payments (February 2025: 207.0 million euros, February 207.0 million: million euros). The increase in travel receipts is due to the rise of average expenditure per journey of 1.2%, as incoming travel traffic decreased by 0.8%. Net receipts from the provision of travel services offset by 3.6% of the balance of the balance of goods and contributed 28.9% to the total receipts from services.

In February 2025, as mentioned above, travel receipts increased by 0.5% compared to the corresponding month of 2024. In more detail, by 11.8%, revenue from residents of EU-27 countries, which stood at EUR 137.9 million, with 14%. 2025: 154.9 million euros, February 2024: 135.2 million euros). The decline in receipts from residents of EU-27 countries was the result of a reduction in receipts by residents of the euro zone by 13.0% (February 2025: 111.6 million euros, February 2024: 128.3 million euros), as well as revenue from residents of EUR-27. They stood at € 26.3 million.
Specifically, with regard to the most important countries of origin of travelers from the euro area, Germany receipts decreased by 22.7% and stood at € 25.6 million, as well as France receipts that decreased by 41.8% and stood at EUR 8.1 million. It was up 70.3% by Italy’s revenue, which stood at € 20.9 million. Of the other countries, the United Kingdom revenue increased by 31.7%, which stood at € 20.2 million, as well as those from the US that increased by 94.0% and stood at € 47.2 million. Finally, there were no receipts from Russia.
In January-February 2025, travel receipts rose 3.9% compared to the corresponding period of 2024 and stood at € 599.3 million. This development is due to the increase in receipts by residents of other countries by 16.7%, which stood at EUR 310.9 million, as revenue from EU-27 residents decreased by 7.3% and stood at EUR 282.2 million. More specifically, receipts from residents of the euro area countries stood at € 240.9 million, down 2.1%, and revenue from EU-27 residents outside the euro zone declined by 29.4% and stood at EUR 41.3 million.

In particular, receipts from Germany decreased by 4.0% and stood at € 61.1 million, as did France revenue by 44.9% and stood at € 18.0 million. Italy was increased by 37.8%, which stood at € 43.8 million. Of the other countries, 34.3% rose from the United Kingdom, which stood at € 45.5 million, while US revenue increased by 51.2% and stood at € 88.1 million. Finally, the receipts from Russia stood at € 1.6 million.

Incoming travel traffic

Incoming travel traffic in February 2025 stood at 715.9 thousand travelers, down 0.8% compared to the corresponding month of 2024. In particular, airport travel traffic decreased by 0.1%, as well as by road stations by 1.5% by 20% in comparison with 20%. Movement came from the fall of travel traffic from EU-27 countries by 6.4%, as travel traffic from other countries increased by 5.9%. More specifically, travel traffic from euro area countries stood at 263.7 thousand travelers, increased by 2.2%, while traveling by EU-27 countries outside the euro zone, which stood at 99.7 thousand travelers.

In particular, travel from Germany increased by 5.9% and stood at 66.2 thousand travelers, while France decreased by 43.7% to 15.4 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from Italy increased by 43.2%, which was 35.0 thousand travelers. With regard to countries outside the EU-27, travel from the United Kingdom increased by 0.5% and stood at 28.6 thousand travelers, as well as the US by the US 46.8% to 60.3 thousand travelers. Finally, there was no travel traffic from Russia.

In January-February 2025, incoming travel traffic increased by 5.4%and stood at 1,537.5 thousand travelers, compared to 1,458.6 mm travelers in the corresponding period of 2024. In particular, travel traffic increased by 12.3%, while it was reduced by 12.3%, while by road stations. During the review, travel traffic from EU-27 countries stood at 741.9 thousand travelers, down 1.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2024, while travel traffic from other countries increased by 13.2% and stood at 795.6 mm. Travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 13.6%, while travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro zone decreased by 34.5%.
In particular, travel from Germany increased by 21.4% and stood at 161.2 thousand travelers, while France decreased by 44.6% and stood at 38.7 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from Italy rose by 28.8%, which stood at 80.8 thousand travelers. With regard to countries outside the EU 27, travel from the United Kingdom increased by 62.2% and stood at 104.8 thousand travelers, while the US increased by 13.6% to 108.8 thousand travelers. Finally, travel from Russia was 0.6 thousand travelers.
