“OR National Authority against precision will be ready in the first half of 2026, ”she told ERT o Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakoswho, speaking of precision and inflation, argued that “this year we have reduced inflation more than anywhere else.” At the same time, he also referred to the popular markets saying that they are not changing, but on the contrary, it is to bring producers closer to consumers, by creating separate points of sale. He also announced that the new mobile app would be ready by the autumn, through which citizens would complain about precision.

“The new principle will not be a theoretical form, but a powerful institution with a clear mission, means and powers to protect consumers and to ensure healthy competition,” he said, noting that the new structure would follow the AADE model and have strong responsibilities, organization and business. At the same time, he wanted to clarify that “the new Authority is not confused with the Competition Committee, which remains responsible for dealing with cartels and is reinforced with 50 new executives”.

Mr Theodorikakos also responded to the concerns of existing services officials, saying: “No one is going to lose his job. No position is abolished. This reform is for the good of society and citizens. “

“When citizens wanted to protest they felt confused”

As the new Authority said, it will emerge from the unification of forces and mechanisms that are now fragmented, such as the Consumer Ombudsman, the Consumer Protection Directorate of the General Secretariat of Commerce and the control mechanisms of both the Ministry of Development and the Regions will form a single structure.

“Today the citizen does not know where to address complaints. Others go to the consumer’s lawyer, others in the regions, others in different services of the General Secretariat of Commerce. This confusion must be over, “the minister said.

The new Authority will be governed by a commander of a five -year term, selected through a tender and procedures approved by the House. It will be framed by three deputy governors, and will be given enhanced digital tools and responsibilities for immediate market interventions.

“We have studied the best European practices and came up with the model of a powerful, autonomous structure that will not be influenced by political alternations,” he said, adding that the aim is “the new beginning has been fully formed and operate in the first half of 2026”.

The establishment of the new Authority, as the Minister of Development said, is part of the broader government’s policy to boost citizens’ disposable income and reduce life costs. “Our strategy has two parts: the development course and the transfer of growth to the citizen’s pocket, through increasing income and tax cuts, and market interventions to maintain prices,” he said.

‘We have inflation in foods around zero’

Concerning the accuracy of the accuracy, Mr. Theodorikakos made it clear: “We do not make a new beginning just to combat accuracy. Income enhancement policy and market interventions are constant and never stop. “

Regarding the prices of products in food and protests of citizens for precision, Mr. Theodorikakos replied: “We have succeeded in having inflation in foods around zero, the smallest in the eurozone, while in the basic living and maintenance of the household, inflation is negative.” Concerning the fact that prices are in the midst of the past, Mr Theodorikakos reiterated that this is a consequence of wars and raising prices during the crown.

Autumn in operation the new mobile app

The Minister of Development also spoke of the new application against accuracy, saying that “the autumn will be put into operation, through which consumers will be able to make complaints to the General Secretariat of Commerce”, adding that this possibility would be extended to other supervisors. As Mr. Theodorikakos revealed, “the consumer lawyer receives more than 20,000 complaints a year”.

At the same time, he also referred to the phenomenon of reduced content in packaging, stressing that transparency in pricing is critical to the protection of the consumer: “It is within our goals, using digital media, to oblige the seller and the one who has made it to announce it and to warn the consumer.”

Separate popular markets only for producers

Speaking about popular markets, he made it clear that “today’s popular markets are not changing. They will continue to exist as they are. But we want, together with the mayors, in collaboration with the Local Government, to enable separate popular markets for producers only. ” In addition, he said that “self -government represents society and we must all ensure that farmers are more accessible to markets.”

Mr Theodorikakos reiterated the need for a more active role of citizens: “I really think there must be a real consumer movement in the country,” he said, stressing that the consumer should be able to exert pressure, even with targeted boycott on products.

Regarding prices, he said that “rising prices in supermarkets, as a whole, from such a day, is close to zero”, despite the fact that there were increases in individual products. He pointed out, however, that “the volume of trading in the supermarkets is constantly increasing”, which, he said, shows that there is still room for market rationalization.

What did he say about the insurance of citizens and businesses

Referring to the new framework for compulsory business insurance against natural disasters, Mr. Theodorikakos recognized the problems that GSEVEE President George Kavvathas also highlighted in ERTNEWS, he replied: “There is a matter, because insurance is not insured,” Ministry of Finance and Mr. Pierrakakis ».

As for life insurance policies, he said that an effort is being underway to create a new framework: “We need to build the new net for life insurance policies to replace the previous system that led to exorbitant increases,” he said, stressing that co -operation with insurance companies.
