A nationwide strike is being carried out today by research workers’ unions, referring to “over time” scientific research at HEIs and research centers in Greece.

In a statement, the Panhellenic Federation of Workers’ Centers-Institutions (POEK-I.) is referring to a “prolonged crisis” for those working in scientific research and teaching in higher education in Greece. “The country’s research centers remain cut off from higher education, acting more as bureaucratic project handling services than academic institutions.

At the same time, the public university is constantly degraded, and both areas remain under -staffed and with frozen, meager state budgets, “the statement said.

In the field of labor relations, it is noted that “the elasticization of the work has been launched, reaching today in rates that are scared”, as “almost two -thirds of survey workers work in precarious conditions, submarines and short -term contracts of all types”.

The announcement is co-signed by the Pan-Hellenic Association of Research and Higher Education Workers, the Association of Researchers, Researchers and Workers in Heraklion Research, the Association of Researchers and Teachers and Teachers Democritus National Science Research Center, the National Observatory of Athens Personnel, the National Center for Social Research Personnel and the Research Association (RI) and Research Workers IIBEAA.

The strike is also supported by the ADEDY Executive Committee. Concentrations and events are organized today in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Patras and Mytilene.
