The first meeting of the Task Force for the maintenance of electricity prices was held today with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Nikos Tsafou.

The aim of the team, as the RIS points out, is the best coordination of governments, managers and regulators of the European Union countries, but also the immediate treatment – whenever required – the sharp increase in electricity prices.

It is recalled that Task Force was activated at European level, by decision of the EU Ministers of Energy Council. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was taken in mid -June in mid -June, following his proposal to the Community institutions in January.

The teleconference was attended by Member States at the level of Deputy Ministers/Deputy Ministers, as well as representatives of the respective System Operators, National Regulators and Acer (Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators).

During the meeting – as announced by the RIS – the issues of electricity prices were raised in the EU countries, the course of energy interconnections in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the readiness of energy infrastructures to address the challenges of this summer, with the aim

More specifically, the European Commission during the teleconference called the Member States to inform whether they have taken or are thinking of taking any measures for:

  • maximize cross -border capacity available for trade,
  • to ensure effective coordination for maintenance of the network/installations,
  • the improvement of system flexibility, – among other things through storage- and
  • reduction of demand during peak demands of demand.

Commenting on the results of the teleconference, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Nikos Tsafos, stressed:

“Today’s first Task Force meeting was characterized by the great participation of the countries concerned and the intellectual of both the size of the problem and the actions that could face a possible exacerbation of prices. All countries are now better prepared and have worked out a number of specific measures that will help in a possible future crisis.

With the Minister of the Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, we are very pleased that the Prime Minister’s initiative, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, not only found a “energian ears” in the European Commission, but also led to the submission of specific proposals – solutions to shield energy. “
