After two years of war, Israel and Hamas announced Thursday morning to reach a truce agreement in the Gaza Strip, based on the 20 -point plan of US President Donald Trump.

The first phase of the agreement provides for the release of the Hamas of the 20 living hostages left alone, in exchange for the release of nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, a source from the French Agency in the Palestinian Islamist movement said today.

The exchange will take place within 72 hours of the commencement of the agreement, which is expected to be officially signed later today, added the source, which is aware of the content of indirect negotiations.

The hostages will be released in exchange for the release of 250 Palestinians who had been sentenced to life imprisonment and another 1,700 people arrested by Israeli forces after the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, according to this source.

The Israeli government expects that the hostages in the Gaza Strip will begin to be released on the next Saturday, a spokeswoman at the Reuters news agency said. He did not specify whether he expected all 48 hostages, alive and dead.
