The rate of inflation in the United Kingdom last June was 3.6%, according to data from the National Statistical Service (OMS). This is the highest level of the last 18 months.

The increase was unexpectedwith most economists predicting that inflation would remain unchanged at 3.4%.

Food prices have reached the highest level since February 2024 (3.7%), while transport also increased the cost of living.

Onshard Hays Deputy Deputy Economist Richard Hays said: “Food prices inflation has increased for the third consecutive month at the highest annual rate since last year.”

Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said it was ‘Determined’ to put More money in people’s pocketsafter official figures showed that inflation increased unexpectedly last month and acknowledged that workers are still fighting at the cost of living.

“That is why we have already taken action by increasing the minimum wage for three million workers, creating free breakfast clubs in each elementary school and expanding the 3 -pound threshold for buses.
