Economou: Five meters for the energy security of the country

The decisions of yesterday’s extraordinary meeting of the Crisis Management Group of the Ministry of Environment were referred to by the government spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou, emphasizing that all alternative scenarios for ensuring the smooth energy supply of the country are being considered, in case Russian escalation.

During the extraordinary meeting under Costa Skreka decided:

-Until Friday o DESFA will submit a cost-benefit assessment study to the Ministry of Environment and Energy for the addition of a floating LNG tank to the Revythousa terminal.

Until Tuesday, the Administrator will inform about the progress of the consultations with the Italian SNAM and the possibilities of maintaining strategic gas reserves in underground warehouses in Italy.

-DESFA will update the estimates regarding the additional LNG loads that may be needed, in case of total interruption of gas flows from Russia.

-THE DEPA Marketing closely monitors the availability of LNG consignments in international markets in order to procure additional consignments if necessary.

-Until Tuesday PPC will submit the annual lignite mining plan to its mines, to ensure the smooth operation of the available lignite plants.

At the same time, potential problems are being addressed at European level in terms of the supply of specific goods, which many countries supply from Russia and Ukraine.

In our country, such a danger, so far, does not exist, said Mr. Economou. noting that the issue occupied a wide inter-ministerial meeting held under the Prime Minister. It confirmed the smooth flow of the market and the operation of the supply chain, as well as the absolute adequacy of goods.

At the same time, it was decided to intensify the controls to deal with unfair trade practices and profiteering phenomena, in case of artificial shortage, in view of the Easter market.

It was also underlined that the primary sector will continue to have the full support of our Government, as on the one hand it is directly affected by the energy crisis and on the other hand it is a very sensitive pillar of development of the Greek economy.
