The average price of a liter of gasoline in the country reached R$ 7,323 this Thursday (31), which represents an increase of 6.9% in the month of March, according to data from the fleet management company Ticket Log, which monitors about 21 thousand posts.
Alcohol (hydrated ethanol), which had been falling since December, also ended March up (1.1%), with an average price of R$ 5.687 per liter.
The value of a liter of fuel soared throughout Brazil after the mega-increase announced by Petrobras on the 10th. The readjustment had as a backdrop the price of oil in the international market, influenced mainly by the war in Ukraine.
On the 11th, the state-owned company readjusted the price of gasoline to distributors by 18.8%, diesel oil by 24.9% and cooking gas by 16.1%.
To try to contain the advance, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) sanctioned a project approved by Congress that amends the collection of ICMS on fuels and zeroed the Import Tax on ethanol that makes up gasoline, but the measures were not enough to make against the increases practiced by Petrobras.
The government’s dissatisfaction with the state-owned company’s pricing policy in an election year, which puts further pressure on inflation, led to the announcement of the change in the presidency of Petrobras.
GASOLINE RAISED IN ALL REGIONS
According to the Ticket Log survey, all regions registered high gasoline prices in March. The Northeast already had, at the beginning of the month, the most expensive gasoline (R$ 6,887) and remains at the top of the ranking (R$ 7,461), with the highest percentage increase (8.33%).
The South has gasoline with the lowest average price, R$ 6.93, and recorded a 5.96% rise in fuel prices in March, according to the survey.
ALCOHOL IS BETTER THAN GASOLINE IN SIX STATES
The price of ethanol was higher in all Brazilian regions, with the exception of the South, where it dropped by 0.12% per liter.
The highest average value was registered in the North, at R$ 6.057, up 0.55% in relation to February. The lowest average was found in the Midwest gas stations, at R$ 5.271, with a decrease of 0.51%.
According to the Ticket Log price index, it is worth filling up with alcohol instead of gasoline in six states: São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and Paraná.
