In the program ‘Environment and Climate Change’ of NSRF 2021-2027 The second phase of the energy upgrading of the General Cancer Hospital of Piraeus “Metaxas” and the General Hospitals of Chania and Pella, with decisions by the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance and Finance. Total public expenditure amounts to 15.350.380 euros And these interventions are part of the government’s overall plan to modernize the NHS and the wider improvement of the daily lives of citizens. In particular, these decisions are promoted and expected to be completed:
-The energy upgrade of Piraeus General Cancer Hospital “Metaxas” (Phase B), 21,215 sqm, which is expected to be upgraded by at least 2 energy categories – from existing D to B. The total public expenditure is EUR 3,788,872.77.
-The energy upgrade of Chania General Hospital “Saint George”, (Phase B), 49,400 sqm of useful surface, which is expected to be upgraded by at least 2 energy categories – by existing C to A- while including actions of installation of electricity -heat -heat -cogeneration and renewable energy (RES) sources (RES). The total public spending amounts to EUR 5,398,092.75.
-The energy upgrade of Pella General Hospital (Phase B), concerns the NM Giannitson and Edessa, which are expected to be upgraded by at least 2 energy categories – by existing D to B- with the production of energy from renewable energy (RES). The total public spending amounts to EUR 6,163,415.07.
The Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis stated: “The NHS is evolving, modernized and upgraded. To those who talk about collapse, we respond with actions. The integration of the 2nd phase of the energy upgrading of the Piraeus Anti -Cancer Hospital “Metaxas” and Chania and Pella Hospitals in the “Environment and Climate Change” program is yet another essential step towards a modern and sustainable national health system. At public expenditure over 15m euros, we are proceeding with targeted infrastructure interventions, boost energy efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of hospitals. “
The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanassis emphasized: “The decisions of the second phase of the energy upgrade of the Metaxas Anti -Cancer Hospital in Piraeus, and Chania and Pella Hospitals, are yet another proof of the importance of the Mitsotakis government to improve the image and services of the NHS. Another proof of the exploitation of every European resource for the benefit of our fellow citizens and the daily lives of our fellow citizens. Similar upgrades, through the “Environment and Climate Change” program of the NSRF 2021-2027, have already been made in its 42 hospitals, with a total public expense of 169,425,526 euros. At the same time, the upgrading interventions in dozens of hospitals and health centers across the country with resources of the recovery and resilience fund of EUR 611.3 million are in full swing.
