After leaving his post at the Secretary of Finance and Planning of the now government of Rodrigo Garcia, this Friday (1st) Henrique Meirelles will release a letter to his countrymen saying that he is proud to be from Goiás but has given up running for the Senate for the state.
In the text, he states that he considered the possibility of being a candidate but concluded that he can contribute more to the state and to the country by working for an economic plan to overcome the fear of inflation and recession.
For now, Meirelles has a role in the toucan João Doria’s campaign team for the presidency.
“I will continue to follow Goiás politics and defend the interests of all Goiás in other instances, whether in the public sector or in the private sector. Goiás is above parties, divergences and private wills.”
The political fate of the former finance minister and former president of the Central Bank is still open. In addition to the Senate, the possibility of him appearing as deputy in Rodrigo Garcia’s candidacy for the government of the state of São Paulo was put on the table.
