The unemployment rate was 8.6% in the second quarter of 2025, according to the workforce research announced today by ELSTAT.
Specifically, according to the results of the second quarter survey 2025:
- The number of employees amounted to 4,386,832 people showing an increase of 4.0% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 1.4% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year
- The number of unemployed amounted to 411,722 persons, presenting reduction by 15.7% compared to the previous quarter and reduction by 12.0%in relation to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
The unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2025 amounted to 8.6%. The unemployment rate in the previous quarter (A ‘2025) was 10.4% and in the corresponding quarter of the previous year (B’ 2024) was 9.8%.
- People who are not included in the workforce, or “people outside the workforce”, that is, people who do not work or seek work, amounted to 4,205,058.
In particular, individuals outside the workforce under 75 years, amounted to 2,965,238. Their numbers decreased by 3.3% compared to the previous quarter and by 1.0% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
