Thousands of moving “bombs” on Greek roads.

Although with a relative delay – as the law has been passed since the summer of 2024 – the General Secretariat for Information Systems completes a huge sweeping control of all the vehicles in the territory, the first results of which are heartbreaking:

  • 700,000 vehicles have not passed KTEO
  • 243.904 vehicles are uninsured
  • 113.382 have not paid for traffic fees

All of these unconscious have been circulating so far uncontrolled, at risk of both others and themselves. Now all of these authorities know them. And despite the irresponsibility they show – many repeatedly – the State does not intend to show them his hard face but it seems he will take them with….

Thus, all the recorded offenders will be sent from early October a first note that will inform them that the State now knows that they are offenders and that they have a time – depending on the infringement – to do the right thing … If they do not remain inactive, they will follow a second note with the certificate.

And the fines are nasty:

For the uninsured

  • 250 € for bicycles
  • 500 € for passengers and other vehicles of each nature
  • 1000 € for buses and public use trucks

For the
traffic charges a fine equal to the amount of fees if a debt of at least 1 year is found

If the vehicle is found to have undergone a periodic audit of central vehicle control, a fine of 400 € is imposed

In case of relapse (by the same owner, for the same vehicle, within three years of the imposition of the fine), a fine of twice the required per case shall be imposed and the license and signs are removed at the same time.

After the fine is imposed and notified, the owner or owner of the vehicle has the right to objection. The objection is submitted electronically to a special electronic application to the Digital Portal of Public Administration within 10 days. The decision on the objection is taken within 30 days.

In this context, the owners of the vehicles who are “on paper” will also be alerted for seven years. Vehicles will initially be put into temporary immobilization regime. If their owners confirm that they are not really used, they are permanently withdrawn. Otherwise, the owners will have to insure them, pass them by KTEOs and pay the traffic charges along with fines so that they can release them.

These extensive intersections will finally allow the state to finally complete the National Register of Vehicle.
At the moment another list is for example, the AADE, another the Ministry of Transport, another by the police. Dozens of examples of the same vehicle but with different signs on each list to mention the simplest.

For two years, GIS has been preparing this register and when it is ready – it cannot be set at the moment – it will stop the State from retrospectively and imposing fines but will know in advance for each vehicle driver/owner what is going on and will inform them and tell them what to do.
