Via Twitter, the platform’s CEO, Parag Agrawal, announced and welcomed Elon Musk to the company’s Board of Directors. Also the founder Jack Dorsey. Musk himself, now the largest shareholder, thanked:
“Looking forward to working with Parag and the Council to make significant improvements to Twitter in the coming months!”
More anxious is Tucker Carlson of the pro-Republican Fox News, who celebrated “a good day for America” with the billionaire’s advance on the platform:
“Why does it matter? Well, because Twitter matters. It’s not by far the biggest social media platform, but it sets the tone for the coverage. It’s where a professional class will learn which opinions are acceptable and which ones are prohibited. one who dares to express an unorthodox opinion, even if it is true, is banned. We found this out last week the hard way. Elon Musk certainly understands this. Twitter ‘failing to adhere to the principles of free speech fundamentally undermines democracy’ , he wrote recently. Could this turn Twitter into a platform for free speech? That’s what it sounds like. Musk is not an orthodox conservative, but he sees the people in power with devastating clarity.”
Brian Stelter’s pro-democrat CNN pointed out the existence of “fear” with the change, as highlighted by Fox News itself:
“Elon criticized Twitter for not allowing enough free speech. So I think the big question will be whether he’s going to try to get Twitter to change its content moderation policies. There’s also fear or caution, ‘Okay, so here’s the richest man on the planet who just bought a large share of one of our most important communication tools.’ He is incredibly powerful.”
