The Minister of Development announced the reduction by 8% to over 2,000 product codes in supermarkets today. Takis Theodorikakosafter his meeting with the General Manager of the Greek supermarket Union Apostle Petala.

In particular, Mr Theodorikakos stated, inter alia, that “today it is announced by the retail chains and suppliers a weighted 8% reduction in over 2,000 major codes. It is a positive and necessary initiative that we want to expand even more. Details will be given by supermarket representatives. “

It is noted that these are 1,074 food codes and 1,106 codes from other product categories. A total of 2,180 codes, 1,356 codes are private label and 824 are branded codes. It is also noted that 2,180 codes make up about 10% of the codes available in supermarkets.

Meanwhile, as journalist Nikos Filippidis commented on SKAI, reductions are also recorded in difficult products, such as coffee, “because prices are rising internationally. Decreasing in Greece in some 5% to 8% products means that some may lose. ” Regarding when the consumer will begin to see the reduction in prices, Nikos Filippides noted that “he will start gradually to the end of this week and at the beginning of next next shelf the tab will be shown … The supermarket will inform the supermarket that this product is reduced. That is, there will be a number of actions that will gradually unfold with the aim of maintaining at least by the end of the year. “

In detail the announcement of the Ministry of Development:

The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, met with the General Manager of the Greek supermarket Union Apostolos Petalas, who informed him that he has included more than 2,000 codes in the initiative to reduce prices from the retailers and suppliers.

The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, made the following statement:

“In a difficult global environment, we are fighting on a constant battle for what goes through our power, to maintain prices, especially in basic living types.

We aim to ensure healthy competition and at the same time push the market in every legal way to reduce its average profit, for the benefit of society and especially those who are being tested. By reducing prices to whatever products this is possible.

In this context, today it is announced by the retail chains and suppliers a we middle -class reduction of 8% in over 2,000 major codes.

It is a positive and necessary initiative that we want to expand even more. Details will be given by representatives of supermarket.

We continue the effort and, as we are committed, begins in the coming days the consultation on the new Independent Consumer Protection Authority and market surveillance.

With the operation of which the audit mechanism is strengthened and fully clarifies the legal framework by coding consumer law.

A reform that we call on all society and of course all parties to support it. “

The General Manager of the Greek supermarket Union, Apostolos Petalas, stressed:

“The organized food retailer consisting of all major supermarket chains, in collaboration with some suppliers, their institutions, the ESBEP and the Association of Food Industries, respond to this call for consumers, for society and the households.

It is a constant effort of the business community, in cooperation with the State and the Ministry of Development, to be able to provide products in excellent quality and at the best possible price.

And this is a constant commitment, despite the difficulties created by the inflationary crisis, the energy crisis and the consequences of climate change on food adequacy internationally. “
