By decision of the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Costas Tsiaras, a new financing package of 10 million euros was approved for the Regions of the country, which concerns the first installment of the second phase of compensations for the killing of animals due to smallpox in goats and sheep, as well as operational costs of the Regions.
Funding is implemented through decisions 285274, 285269 and 285264, which concern aid and compensation for the killing of animals due to the imposition of veterinary sanitation measures, as well as the coverage of operational costs of the Regional Veterinary Services, which are responsible for the implementation of biosecurity measures to deal with and eradicate the zoonotic disease. .
The total funding for the second phase of compensation amounts to 22 million euros, while the first tranche of 10 million euros will be paid to the Regions by tomorrow, so that the payment and support process of the affected farmers can continue without interruption.
It is recalled that by the end of March, 30 million euros had already been paid for compensations due to the killing of animals due to goat and sheep pox, proving the consistency of the Ministry towards the producers and the livestock economy of the country.
Mr. Tsiaras stated:
“We consistently support the affected livestock farmers and at the same time strengthen the Regions and Veterinary Services that are on the front line to protect the country’s livestock. I again call on everyone involved to strictly observe biosecurity measures because this is the only appropriate way to protect our animal production. The future of Greek livestock farming is in the hands of all of us.”
