Insurers have been moving to keep up with the news in the job market and in the means of payment that have been consolidated in recent years. This is the case of insurance for transactions, including Pix, and for home office equipment.
Launched in October 2020 as a free form of transfer, Pix was popular with Brazilians and already has more than 120 million active users, including individuals and companies. But the resource has also attracted the attention of criminals, who take advantage of the possibility of making quick and free transactions to carry out scams, kidnappings and other crimes.
Insurance for Pix and other transactions depends on the type of crimes the victim was exposed to.
Most banks have for some time offered insurance against transfers carried out in situations where the customer is kidnapped, coerced or extorted. This is the case of Itaú Unibanco, Santander, C6 Bank and Mercantil, among others.
The monthly amount of insurance varies according to the limit that will be protected. The cheapest option found by the report was the basic plan of Itaú Unibanco, which costs R$ 2.90 and guarantees coverage for transactions of up to R$ 10 thousand.
Bradesco offers broader insurance. It covers not only transfers made under duress, but also situations such as loss, theft or theft of the cell phone. It is an option that promises to protect the customer from frequent cases, especially in large cities, where criminals take the cell phone and manage to transfer the victim’s money to other accounts in a few minutes.
In this type of insurance, Bradesco’s cheapest plan costs R$8.99 per month and protects transactions up to a limit of R$20,000. The most expensive plan costs BRL 15.99 per month, with an insured limit of BRL 50,000.
None of the banks, fintechs or insurance companies sought by the report said they offer insurance against cases in which the victim is deceived by scammers, without undergoing coercion or loss of cell phone. That is, scams that use so-called social engineering remain outside the scope of protection.
Bradesco Seguros also presented a product focused on people who work from home. The proposal is for protection for commercial activity in the home, with insurance for machinery, furniture, fixtures, goods and raw materials directly related to the insured’s professional activity.
The brokerage It’sSeg, in partnership with the insurance company Kovr, also launched its “home office insurance”, available for companies that have employees in total or partial remote activity.
The product offers the possibility of protecting equipment in places outside the residence (in transit or outside work), in addition to coverage of domestic accidents, fire and electrical damage. There is also the possibility of hiring nanny assistance, psychological assistance, among other benefits.
“We are following the new consumer trends and consumer behavior through research, analysis and studies. From this information, we noticed that we could help companies and consumers with an innovative solution. It was from this that we structured this initiative”, he says. Karina Andrade, commercial director of Ramos Elementares at It’sSeg.
To adopt any of It’sSeg’s plans, the interested company must have at least 50 employees who will be insured or a minimum insurance cost of R$1,000 per month.
