The Vitara Strong Hybrid has ALLGRIP all-wheel drive which is always available and does not depend on the charge level of the high voltage battery. Which means that all-wheel drive in the Vitara is available to the driver even if the hybrid battery is completely empty.
Remember that the first four-wheel drive model of Suzuki was created in 1970 with the following philosophy: To be a vehicle that can lead you on off-road routes like no other in the past.
This was the beginning of Suzuki ALLGRIP technology. 4WD technology has been upgraded, offering the driver even greater driving pleasure, safety and performance. With ALLGRIP technology, Vitara expands its range of capabilities, but also the different lifestyle of each driver. The Vitara has ALLGRIP Select all-wheel drive giving the driver 4 options depending on the terrain he has to face.
The new powerful, lightweight hybrid system offers hybrid and electric driving. It consists of the 1.5 DUALJET engine, an electric motor (MGU), the AGS automatic transmission and the 140V lithium-ion battery. The high-efficiency MGU electric motor enables electric drive (EV) to power the vehicle and help the engine accelerate. It also enables reverse electric driving (EV) and adds extra torque when shifting gears to achieve smoother acceleration. When the car is running at a constant speed, the MGU electric motor uses the engine power to generate electricity (charging the battery) in order to extend the range and frequency of electric driving and to achieve reduced fuel consumption and quiet driving. During deceleration, kinetic energy is recovered which ensures the battery is recharged and maintains its sufficient power.
