‘We will have a new president in Brazil next year’, says Jorge Paulo Lemann

The businessman and billionaire Jorge Paulo Lemann said, this Saturday (8), to expect changes in Brazil for the next year.

“We have an election going on in Brazil and we will have a new president. My basic objective in Brazil is to try to improve education. We are preparing a new kit on how to improve education in Brazil, which I think Brazil needs most.” , said Lemann in a debate at the Brazil Conference.

The event is held in Boston, by students from Harvard and MIT.

Lemann made the statement after being asked what he would have liked to have accomplished a year from now.

“The main thing I’m trying to do is improve education in terms of making people able to participate in the startup economy or even be competitive in the world,” he said.

The businessman did not make any other comments about the elections, and did not want to give an interview after the event.

Lemann is the richest man in Brazil, according to Forbes, with an estimated fortune of US$ 16.1 billion (R$ 76.3 billion).

The businessman participated in a debate on innovation in post-Covid work models, alongside Henrique Dubugras, co-founder of Brex, and Justin Mateen, co-founder of Tinder.

During the debate, Lemann asked more questions than he answered. About remote work, he replied that “I like it for me. I think it works for many types of companies, but not for others”, he pondered.

Speakers agreed that one of the main issues with remote work is the difficulty in training new employees and passing on company culture to them. And that the main advantage is being able to hire people from various parts of the world, like a company in Silicon Valley recruiting employees in other countries, including Brazil.

In September 2021, Lemann said he was concerned about the lack of dialogue in the country.

“I think we are performing poorly in Brazil in general. There is a lack of dialogue, people need to talk about common problems, listen to different points of view, find solutions, pragmatic solutions that take us forward again,” he said at an event on that occasion.
