Panel SA: After Petrobras mega-increase, stations will have to cut price by one decimal

by

After the mega-increase in fuel prices, gas stations are getting ready for a new change that will affect prices again: the cut to the third decimal place.

By the measure, which was defined in a resolution by the ANP (National Petroleum Agency) at the end of last year and comes into force in May, prices per liter of all car fuels should appear at stations with just two, not three more. , places after the comma.

When the measure was announced, the ANP said that it could facilitate consumer understanding, but the change does not please many gas station owners.

The assessment is that this may end up increasing the cost for the driver in the end, if the rounding is done up so as not to harm the establishments’ cash flow.

By the accounts of a gas station owner, cutting the third decimal place without rounding up could reduce the bill of an end consumer who fills the tank by cents, but would reduce the establishment’s cash by thousands of reais at the end of the month.
