The completion of the digitization of all services of the Municipality of Athens by the end of the year, announced today at the Cisco Conference in Thessaloniki the Mayor of Athens Costas Bakogiannis, announcing at the same time the creation of a Digital Book of the city of Athens, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Policy. This is the first such effort made in Greece – after Paris, Berlin and London – as well as a decisive step for the transformation of the city. Explaining to the audience of the Conference the importance of the Digital Bible for the future of Athens, the Mayor of Athens stated:

“It is not just a sum of projects and sub-projects, it is not just quantitative, nor does it have to do with the technical data sheets, which will allow us to absorb the 20 + 12 million euros that Athens is entitled to. It is something much more. It is an invitation of interest to all and everyone in the public and private sector, in institutions and civil society, in small and medium enterprises, but also in the cultural institutions of the city, to join forces to transform the city. “Let us make it better for the lives of the citizens now and prepare it for the demanding tomorrow”, stressed Mr. Bakoyannis.

The Mayor of Athens in his speech at the Conference entitled “The Cities of the Future: Modern, Safe and Sustainable”, referred to the digital policy of the municipality, proposing the work of the Computerization Company and Business Units of the Municipality (DAEM) and especially the https platform : //eservices.cityofathens.gr/ through which, the relationship of the Athenians with the municipal services changed.

“Currently, 70% of the services of the Municipality of Athens have been digitized. By the end of the year, 100% of the services will have been digitized. The citizen no longer needs to suffer. He can do his job easily and quickly from home, from the office, from his mobile phone. At the same time, DAEM created the service of electronic appointments, but also a complete system for kindergartens. All this together with the Novoville application that works with great success, recording in real time the requests and the response of the services of the Municipality, the my Athens pass for the easy parking in the city, but also the platforms that have already been developed for the information of citizens regarding our actions, compose a very different relationship between the Municipality and its citizens “.

He pointed out that digitization is not an end in itself, but acquires meaning and substance when it makes people’s lives better. “We are not judged,” he said, “neither by the money we absorb, nor by the large signs we place.” He even expressed his concern that behind the temporary political gain an unprecedented opportunity for Greece may be lost and asked all representatives of the local government and those in the market to sit in a cooperative spirit around a table and with transparency and honesty. to offer essential services to citizens.

Mr. Bakoyannis also referred to the e-government of the Municipality, which includes important initiatives such as the complete upgrade of the Protocol of the Municipality of Athens, the creation of a platform for monitoring the progress of projects in the city and infrastructure projects in schools, as well as the infringement management system. which allows the municipal police to respond quickly and, above all, transparently to the needs of the city.

The Mayor of Athens made a special reference to the work of electric lighting, which is the biggest step of Athens in the era of smart cities. “We are preparing in the next 1.5 – 2 months to contract the project of electric lighting of the Municipality of Athens. A total of 43,500 electric luminaires are being replaced with LED technology luminaires, from one end of the city to the other, in the seven municipal districts. This energy upgrade not only leads to savings and better lighting quality, and therefore to a safer city, but also provides a series of automations, as we talk about the first smart electricity network in the capital. I will tell you differently: Athens is finally welcoming the 21st century.

Finally, Mr. Bakoyannis addressed an invitation to all the creative and innovative forces of the city to contribute to the passage of Athens in the new era:

“Athens has suffered a lot from the crises. When the financial crisis ended, the pandemic came. When the pandemic seemed to end, came the new energy crisis, the cost of living crisis. But Athens has endured and endures. And this, thanks to the new, creative communities of people who resist. We address to these communities, to those with whom we want to write together the “tomorrow” of our city “, concluded Mr. Bakoyannis.

The Mayor of Athens also participated in a panel on the “Future of Cities” with the Mayor of Piraeus Giannis Moralis, the Mayor of Nicosia Konstantinos Giorkatzis, the Mayor of Skopje Danela Arsovska, the Deputy Mayor of International Affairs Anastasia Margetic, and the Deputy Mayor of Pristina Donjeta Sahatciu.
