The government is ready to launch a national plan to de-escalate prices if the commission’s proposals to be unveiled in mid-May are not deemed capable of putting out the fire.

Moscow is threatening a new price spike if Europe’s thoughts on new energy sanctions become a reality.
“No action but simple statements by Russia to cut off energy supplies are leading to rising prices worldwide. “If the world is faced with, not hypothetical, but real constraints, then the prices of the main fuels would significantly exceed the historical highs they are already at,” said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
In Athens, the government is waiting for the unveiling of the Commission’s proposals for dealing with the energy crisis in mid-May and is preparing to implement the alternative national plan to reduce prices if there is no European agreement.
“It is the decision of the prime minister to exhaust every available euro to find ways to support society by maintaining fiscal discipline and keeping resources and reserves for the next period,” said Government Spokesman Giannis Oikonomou.
The new model for balancing electricity and gas bills is intended to be implemented from June.
“Certainly this situation can not continue for a long time because we all understand the pressure that exists on households and businesses,” said Alexandra Sdoukou, Secretary General of Energy.
European decisions are expected to lock in at the summit on 30 and 31 May.
