The salaries of the top directors of the top 100 companies in the United States grew an average of 31% in 2021, according to a study by consultancy Equilar, but some have increased far above that level, such as Apple (569%) and Goldman Sachs (65 %).
Among salaries, premiums and stock options, its revenues had fallen 2% in 2020, the year of the pandemic, the consultancy recalled.
In 2021, these executives earned an average of US$ 20 million (R$ 93.5 million). The list was headed by Intel director Patrick Gelsinger (US$ 178 million, or R$ 832 million), Equilar detailed.
Then come Tim Cook, from Apple, with US$ 99 million (R$ 462.7 million); Hock Tan, from Broadcom, with US$ 61 million (R$ 285.1 million), and Satya Nadella, from Microsoft, with US$ 50 million (R$ 233.7 million).
“The strong increase in salaries is probably due to the fact that several companies have decided to reward their directors through awards and stock bonuses for having led their organizations through turbulent periods and for having stimulated the growth of revenues”, explained the consultancy.
Thus, CEOs of companies earned on average 254 times more than ordinary employees in 2021, against 238 times more in the previous year.
In turn, the average salary of the employees of these same hundred companies increased 4%, to US$ 71,869 (R$ 335.9 thousand).
