The owners of bars and restaurants are beginning to feel a return to the patterns of seasonality prior to the pandemic, which hit the sector with operating restrictions, on holidays.
According to Abrasel’s nationwide monitoring, the off-season Carnival promoted on this holiday in Tiradentes increased the revenue of establishments in Rio de Janeiro by 30%.
Paulo Solmucci, president of the entity, points out that the favorable scenario, due to lack of planning, was not well used in the rest of the country.
“Carnival in Rio was very good. In São Paulo, it had that holiday look and people left the capital”, he says. According to him, the collection remained at a stable level.
Solmucci, who estimates growth of 3% for the sector this year, says that there is still a lot of concern about the closing of accounts, as restaurants are in arrears with installments of debt and difficulty passing on inflation to consumers in an economic scenario. weakened, which compromises the margins.
Fábio Aguayo, from Abrabar (Brazilian Association of Bars and Nightclubs), also recorded a positive result in the South region, with a 40% increase in movement. He attributes the heating more to the time customers have available on the holiday than to carnival events.
“As the Holy Week is more familiar, the consumer poured his energy for April 21. Whoever thought of doing some promotional action to attract customers did well”, he says.
Sylvio Lazzarini, director of Varanda Grill restaurants and member of Fhoresp (Federation of Hotels, Restaurants, Bars and Similar of the State of São Paulo), says that the good movement was not expected and surprised.
He says Thursday holidays are often bad for the industry because consumers travel. Lazzarini says he had an expected drop of up to 40% in the movement, but it was not confirmed.
“In my opinion, there was a movement of tourists from other states and cities in São Paulo. From 1 to 10, I think it was week 9”, says the businessman.
