About 36 million Brazilians will receive the payment of pensions or benefits from the INSS (National Social Security Institute) as of this Monday (25), when the first installment of the 13th installment also begins to be advanced to 31.6 million policyholders.
Beneficiaries who earn up to a minimum wage (R$ 1,212) will receive until May 6, according to the final number of the benefit, without considering the check digit. Policyholders who receive amounts above the national minimum will have to pay between May 2nd and 6th.
The money from the 13th will fall into the account along with the monthly benefit, in two stages. The first installment will come in the competence of April — between April 25th and May 6th. The second installment will fall with the payment of the competence of May — between May 25 and June 7.
According to the institute, the 13th of the INSS will inject more than R$ 56.7 billion into the economy: R$ 28.3 billion referring to the advance of the first installment and another R$ 28.3 billion of the second installment.
They are entitled to the 13th retirees, pensioners and workers with sick pay and accident pay. Policyholders who have BPC (Continued Benefit Benefit) and lifetime monthly income do not receive the 13th.
Querying the exact value of the 13th of the INSS can be made by the beneficiary through the Meu INSS app or website. For those who were already retired in January 2022, the first installment corresponds to half of the benefit amount. The second installment has an income tax discount for those who are obliged to pay.

What to do with the anticipation of the 13th of the INSS?
Cintia Senna, educator at Dsop (an organization dedicated to financial education) says that anticipating the 13th is a good measure, especially for those who know how to deal with extra resources. “It is important for us to emphasize that this amount is already the right of the retiree or pensioner, and he is having the possibility of receiving it in advance and, consequently, making good use of the money”, she says.
According to Senna, the best thing to do with anticipation depends on the situation of each insured person. She suggests that people ask themselves some questions: “What is my financial situation. Am I in debt? Do I have emergency reserves? Do I have any short, medium or long-term dreams or needs? Will this amount be enough to organize myself, or even No? Can I start separating, saving, so that this amount helps me not only this month, but also the others?”
In the educator’s opinion, money should only be used to make purchases or debts as a last resort. Senna recommends that the person try to keep the advance as a reserve, especially if the insured knows that he will have extra expenses until the end of the year.
“If you can and know how, take the opportunity to make that money multiply through investments”, he says.
Law defined anticipation
Anticipation has always been a claim of retirees, which meant that, since 2006, the release of the first installment took place in the first semester, always by means of a presidential decree. Lula, Dilma, Temer and Bolsonaro signed decrees with the advance.
In 2019, however, the law that regulated the pension reform guaranteed the anticipation of the first installment of the benefit always in June without the need for a decree. The second quota, however, would continue to be paid in the second half of the year, together with the November benefit.
But in 2020 and 2021, the pandemic led to payment still in the first half. Last year, the 13th was paid to 30.7 million beneficiaries, injecting R$ 23.7 billion into the economy in each payment batch.
