The purchase of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk has been celebrated by Bolsonaro businessmen on social media. The announcement of the operation boosted profiles of Bolsonaro supporters.
“Freedom of expression breathes,” wrote Gabriel Kanner, a member of the family that owns Riachuelo.
Salim Mattar, founder of Localiza, said that “the network will be managed with a focus on freedom, which is currently being attacked from all sides, by all institutions and with the support of the mainstream media.”
Luciano Hang, from Havan, said that after the deal was announced, he gained more than 30,000 followers in a single day on Twitter. And he added, on another social network, that “freedom is more important than life itself”, citing the South African tycoon.
Otávio Fakhouri, president of the PTB directory in São Paulo, celebrated using applause emojis.
In recent years, Bolsonaro and other personalities have had tweets deleted for violating platform rules and spreading fake news. Former US President Donald Trump has been banned after insisting the 2020 US election was rigged.
Elon Musk, who describes himself as an absolutist of free speech, says that making the social network a privately held company would be a way to guarantee the free flow of ideas.
