Panel SA: Viracopos records 1st profit in ten years

The Viracopos concessionaire is preparing to announce its first profit since the beginning of the concession, in 2012.

The numbers, which should be released this Thursday (28), show gross revenue of R$ 1.1 billion in 2021, almost 30% above the previous year and a net profit for the year of R$ 276 million, reversing the loss of R$ $322 million from 2020, according to the company.

The positive result surprised because it comes in the wake of the pandemic, which shook the passenger aviation market, but the performance was driven by cargo handling. It also comes in the context of the concession return process.

In March, Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) approved the drafts of the public notice and the concession contract for the re-bidding of the Campinas terminal, forwarding the legal documents to the TCU (Union Court of Auditors). After this stage, the process returns to Anac to set a date for the public notice and auction.

The concessionaire celebrates the performance on the anniversary of a decade and says that the result will allow the anticipation of the payment of installments of the loan with BNDES.

“Negotiations in this regard are already at an advanced stage. Viracopos has no delayed installments with BNDES and other banks that transfer the financing”, says the concessionaire.

Among other numbers that will be released, Viracopos announces that, in 2021, it reached 10 million passengers a year, up 50% compared to 2020, which represents the third best result since the beginning of the concession.

In terms of cargo, it closed the year with more than 364 thousand tons, an increase of almost 40% compared to 2020. In the import line, 153,404 tons were handled, also the third largest result in the history of the concession, behind 2013 (163,018) and 2014 ( 155,739).
