McPicanha without picanha? Procon notifies fast food chain

by

Procon-SP notified McDonald’s this Thursday (28), after the fast food chain publicly confirmed that the snacks in its newly launched “Novos McPicanha” line are not made with picanha, but with a flavored sauce. In the campaign, the company informs that McPicanha “has the biggest meat in Méqui with picanha-flavored sauce”. In the fine print, the advertisement details that the hamburger is made with 100% beef and with a picanha-flavored sauce.

Procon-SP asks Arcos Dourados Comércio de Alimentos, responsible for McDonald’s, for explanations about the new line of sandwiches and the presentation of the nutritional table, attesting to the composition of each of the ingredients.

“McDonald’s was also requested to present the templates for the packaging used to package the products in physical stores for immediate consumption and for delivery. [delivery] and copy of advertising materials and publicity media for the 2022 line, as well as the immediately preceding campaign for sandwiches with the presence of “a strong barbecue and/or picanha flavor”, published in the media and social networks by the company and by partners”, says the São Paulo consumer protection agency, in a note.

Clarifications must be provided by May 2.

McDonald’s states that “it is already working to clarify the questions raised by Procon, within the deadline granted”.

“The brand regrets that the communication created about the new products may have generated doubts and informs that new pieces, highlighting the composition of the sandwiches more clearly, are already being produced”, says McDonald’s, in a note.
