Panel SA: Oil and gas sector projects annual average of a barrel of oil at US$ 116 in 2022

by

Projections from the energy sector indicate that the price of oil could reach US$ 116 per barrel in the annual average in 2022, depending on the extent of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to the IBP (Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas), based on data from the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.

Prolonged maintenance of the price of oil at a higher level tends to attract more investment, says the institute.

According to IBP figures, the oil and gas sector should bring US$ 175 billion (more than R$ 865 billion) to the country, per year, until 2030.

On Friday (29), expectations of a heating up of the Chinese economy boosted the rise of 1.63% in the reference price of crude oil. A barrel of Brent was quoted at US$ 119.34 (R$ 537.78) in the late afternoon.

According to an IMF report released this month, Brazil can benefit from the scenario, as it is an exporter of the raw material.
