“Evacuation of civilians from other areas of Mariupol is postponed,” say local authorities

A plan to evacuate civilians from areas of the devastated Ukrainian city of Mariupol, other than the Azovftal steel plant, has been postponed to 8 a.m. Monday morning, announced today the municipal council of Mariupol.

At the same time, Moscow reported that 80 civilians had been evacuated from the steel plant in Mariupol. “Eighty civilians, including women and children, were rescued,” the Russian Defense Ministry said, adding that “those who wanted to flee to areas controlled by the Kiev regime were handed over to UN representatives.”

A first group of 100 Ukrainian civilians evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol will arrive in the Ukrainian-controlled city Zaporizhiaannounced earlier the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The evacuation of civilians from Azovstal has begun. A first group of 100 Ukrainian civilians is heading towards the controlled territory (from Ukraine). Tomorrow we will welcome them in Zaporizhia. I am grateful to our team! “Now they, together with the (United Nations), are working to remove other civilians from the factory,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.
