by

Strong deterioration of the economic climate index in Greece in April records the economic situation of IOBE.

According to the foundation Retail expectations fell in April for the fourth consecutive month as well Inflationary pressures, which have already begun in the autumn, are escalating after the invasion of Ukraine. The effects of the war are mainly reflected in consumer confidence, as after a sharp drop in March, from a low, it fell further in April. As a result, it was found at the lowest level since August 2017.

As the war in Ukraine continues, without it being clear how it will end soon or how sanctions against Russia will be lifted, the relevant developments will be the main factor shaping the conditions in the Greek and world economy in the coming months.

Uncertainties arising from developments are now strongly influencing businesses and consumerswith policy interventions, at national and international level, being able to mitigate the effects only to a certain extent.

In addition to the war in Ukraine and its effects on energy costs and inflation, the economic climate will soon also be affected by developments on the pandemic front, where the data show a significant improvement during this period, and from the course of tourism as summer approaches.
