The news about the postoperative condition of the 8-year-old who cut the little finger of her right hand in a playground in Thessaloniki is encouraging, according to her doctor, Antoni Antoniouwho speaking to ERT stated that the image of her finger after welding is excellent.

“It is a happy circumstance that the colleague was present at the scene who ensured the correct transfer of the finger and the child and that we had the opportunity to operate on him in the time we need to have the best result”said the plastic surgeon on the show “Connections”.

Speaking of the crucial minutes that followed, after amputation of the finger of the 8-year-old, Mr. Antoniou said that “It needs to be put in a bag and all around ice. It should not come in direct contact with the ice. ” And as the doctor who operated on the child said, “My advice to her mother “The strand was wrapped in a baby wipe and did not rest on the ice, so as not to burn the tissues and not be re-bonded afterwards.”.

According to Mr. Antoniou, if an amputated limb is not properly maintained, then the time for reattachment is reduced from twelve hours which is the maximum time to three to six hours.

On the occasion of this horrific accident in the playground of Thessaloniki, the plastic surgeon explained that the results are not always desirable, especially in older people or smokers.

Regarding the development of the child’s health, Mr. Antoniou stressed that doctors are waiting for the first week to pass and that the child’s finger reperfusion so far is good. «The functional result will be ensured with some additional interventions. The important thing is that the child feels his hand intact “he said.

Describing the specific incident, he explained that the mechanism of the injury also plays a role in recovery. “It’s not just that the finger was cut, but that it was pulled. Some damage to the vessels can be seen in the coming days. So far the little one is very optimistic, it helps and we believe that everything will go well».
