They run to fill vacancies in tourism

The 35-day sprint is run by the government and the tourism industry in order to be as ready as possible for the peak of the tourist season in the June-August quarter.

As early as the start of preparations for the tourist season in March, tourism entrepreneurs complained that they could not find employees, which was attributed by industry mainly to the pandemic and the change in the orientation of employees.

March and April passed and the president of SETE, Andreas Andreadis, recently stated that there are about 50,000 vacancies that need to be filled so that the quality of services does not decline in a critical year when the country expects revenues close to 80% of those of 2019.

That is why in a meeting between the leaderships of the Ministries of Labor and Tourism and the representatives of SETE it was decided that until May 31, the tourism companies will declare the number and the specialties of the employees that are needed in the platform of DYPA (former OAED).

Afterwards, the labor consultants of DYPA will undertake to identify and indicate to the companies those unemployed who meet the conditions – that is, they will act as intermediaries – so that the positions are filled by June 15 at the latest.

At the same time, career days will be organized, while special care will be taken for medium and large companies with more than 50 employees as DYPA will provide them with direct staff finding and pre-selection services.

In the shadow of complaints about the arbitrariness of employers in tourism, an issue that reached the Parliament with a relevant question of SYRIZA MPs, the Minister of Labor Kostis Hatzidakis particularly focused on the launch of the series targeted controls in tourist destinations.

The controls will not only concern the hotels, but also the catering and in general the branches that are included in the tourist services, in order to ensure the observance of the legislation for safety and health at work and the undeclared or declared work.

Regarding the remuneration, the leadership of the ministry reminds that the Collective Agreement for the employees in the hotels is valid until the end of the year and is obligatory for all the companies in the sector.
