After two years of falling sales on Mother’s Day, mall tenants crossed the second most important date in the annual retail calendar with a positive performance.
Inflation eroded part of the potential of the date, but it was still possible to achieve real growth close to 10% compared to the previous year, according to Ablos, an association that brings together owners of smaller store chains, called satellites in malls.
Mauro Francis Tavares, president of Ablos, says that small and medium-sized shopkeepers were confident for Mother’s Day, but there was still uncertainty about how they would close their cashiers.
He says he believes that the resumption of face-to-face commerce is more heated, but with caution. There is still fear for the increase in the cost of goods, inputs and rent of stores, according to Tavares.
