BC servers criticize political use of Pix by Bolsonaro and allies

After Pix began to be used in party campaigns on the eve of the electoral calendar, the Central Bank’s servers published this Tuesday (10) a note of repudiation against the political use of the tool by the government or its allies, saying that the mechanism is a result the work of state civil servants.

“This instant payment system was created and implemented by the analysts and technicians of the Central Bank of Brazil, that is, by public servants of the State, not by the current governor or any other government”, said Fábio Faiad, president of Sinal (National Union of Employees of the Central Bank), in a note.

In addition to President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) having already declared that Pix is ​​an action by his government, Communications Minister Fábio Faria (PP-RN) has used the tool as the subject of a partisan propaganda on the air since last month. .

“Progressistas supported President Bolsonaro in the creation of Pix,” Faria said in a video, adding that the party “is proud of this achievement.”

The entity that represents BC servers reacted by saying that “the beginning of the Pix project is well before the term of the current president of the Republic” and that it is necessary “to highlight the difference between State policies and specific measures of governments”.

The BC ordinance that established the working group to develop Pix was published on May 3, 2018, when the monetary authority was commanded by Ilan Goldfajn, during the government of Michel Temer (MDB).

The launch of Pix took place in November 2020, under the Bolsonaro government. At the time, the president made a public statement confusing the payment system with a topic related to civil aviation.

BC SERVANTS STRIKE CONTINUES

BC servers are on strike and approved this Tuesday the continuation of the movement indefinitely. The decision was supported by a “broad majority” of officials who participated in the deliberative assembly, according to Sinal.

“The reasons for this decision were the non-opening of the negotiation table and the non-presentation of an official proposal by the government”, said the entity.

The union reinforced, however, that Pix will not be interrupted due to the mobilization.

“The strike has majority support and will continue to affect the Focus bulletin, the dissemination of Ptax [taxa de câmbio]the signing of authorization processes in the financial system, the holding of events and meetings with the financial system and other activities”, he said in a note.

Faiad stated that the union does not consider the COMEF (Financial Stability Committee) as an essential activity. “We are going to fight for the Comef not to be held (or, if there is, for it to be postponed and with a greatly reduced scope),” he said.
