National Treasury employees approve strike from May 23

Due to salary readjustment and career restructuring, the National Treasury employees decided, this Tuesday (17), to go on strike for an indefinite period starting next Monday, May 23.

The decision had the support of 71.5% of the participants of the deliberative assembly, according to Unacon Sindical (National Union of Auditors and Federal Technicians of Finance and Control).

“The strike is a last resort, but at this critical moment in which the legal deadline for salary recomposition in an election year is running out and when the government’s signal of readjustments discriminating against the Finance and Control career, the National Treasury employees approved the intensification of mobilization”, said Bráulio Cerqueira, president of Unacon Sindical, in a note.

“We do not give up defending our career and our institutions”, he added.

In the last week, according to the entity that represents the category of Finance and Control, 80% of the Treasury employees who occupy positions and functions in commission requested collective exoneration. Before that, the dissatisfaction of the category had already motivated several stoppages and public acts.

It is the third category that decides to cross their arms. Employees of the INSS (National Social Security Institute) and the Central Bank are already on strike. In addition, employees of the CGU (Comptroller General of the Union) will meet next Friday (20), at 2 pm, to also deliberate on the possibility of stoppage.

In an assembly on Tuesday afternoon, BC employees approved the continuation of the strike indefinitely. According to Sinal (National Union of Central Bank Employees), 95% of those present at the assembly voted in favor of continuing the strike.

The BC civil servants’ strike, which resumed on May 3, has affected the monetary authority’s routine, with the interruption in the disclosure of reports and financial indicators. The last available Focus survey was published on April 29th.
