Who will be the next president of Brazil? Impossible to say, but the only certainty about the elections has a historical basis: the dispute between Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Lula (PT) should follow examples of previous votes and become even more fierce after the free election time, starting in August.
Although many artists prefer not to take a political stand, months before the start of advertising, the number of opinion makers who publicly declared their voting intentions is already considerable – whether on social media, in interviews or shows.
Former president Lula seems to have the greatest support of the artistic class so far. They have already openly declared that names such as Pabllo Vittar, José de Abreu (a historic PT member), Daniela Mercury and Silvero Pereira, as well as Teresa Cristina, Duda Beat, Lenine, Chico César, Gilberto Gil and his family, among others . Some of them, by the way, have already officially joined PT’s campaign when recording the new version of the clip of the jingle “Lula Lá”.
Caetano Veloso even declared his vote on national television when he was interviewed by the TV program Cultura Roda Viva, in December 2021. The musician and his wife, businesswoman and producer Paula Lavigne, ratified their support by meeting Lula and sociologist Rosângela da Silva, Janja, before their wedding, in the apartment they live in, in São Paulo.
Zeca Pagodinho has not met Lula in person for some time, but at Carnival he showed discontent with the country’s direction under Bolsonaro and considered leaving Brazil if the president manages to be reelected. He and Lula have known each other for a long time, and the PT member usually calls Zeca on important occasions – the most recent was in February, on the musician’s birthday.
On the ideologically opposite side, among those who defend the government and the re-election of Jair Bolsonaro, are names like Latino, Thiago Gagliasso and Ratinho. Model Andressa Urach is one of her fiercest admirers and considered naming her newborn son, as she revealed during a conversation on social media.
It is among the sertanejos that Bolsonarismo has the most support, including musicians from several generations, such as Amado Batsita, Chrystian, who formed a duo with his brother, Ralf, and singer Sérgio Reis.
In August 2021, Reis leaked an audio in which Reis made threats against ministers of the Federal Supreme Court and summoned the president’s defenders to a demonstration in BrasÃlia. “If in 30 days they don’t take those guys out [ministros do STF]we are going to invade, break everything and take the guys out by force”, he said, at the time.
Zezé di Camargo also took to the networks in 2021 to call the population to pro-Bolsonaro demonstrations and ask for the return of the printed vote, one of the president’s obsessions.
As there is still no consensus name for the so-called third way, the vote for another candidate by the famous is not very evident. At the end of 2021, when Sergio Moro’s candidacy for Podemos seemed more viable, actor Carlos Vereza expressed support. Fábio Porchat and Tico Santa Cruz showed interest in supporting Ciro Gomes (PDT).
