The new US ambassador to Greece will visit Archbishop Ieronymos on Monday

Him Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece Mr. Ieronymos will visit tomorrow, Monday 23 May 2022, o new US Ambassador to Greece, George Tsounis. The meeting is scheduled for 12:00 at the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, while as it has become known, it is a ceremonial visit.

Ambassador Tsounis is a Greek-American, son of immigrants to the United States, with origin from Platanos of mountainous Nafpaktia. Growing up, his parents instilled in him the Greek virtues of kindness, of love and above all, of the philotimos. He learned Greek as his first language. Deeply attached to the Greek-American community, Ambassador Tsounis was a founding member of the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) and, among other roles, is the administrator of the Hellenic Initiative. Prior to his candidacy, Ambassador Tsounis was the founder, president and CEO of Chartwell Hotels, LLC. He was president of the Battery Park City Authority.

The new US ambassador to Greece spent his childhood on Long Island with his two sisters, Anastasia and Vicky. Growing up, his sisters became teachers in public schools.

Their parents maintained with their nails and teeth the ties with the homeland they left behind, the Greek heritage and the language. George reverently attended the Greek school, participated in the Greek parade as a student in the community of Agia Paraskevi. He never lost the function, in which he also participated as a grandchild. Mr. Tsouni’s relationship with the Church began when he was a priest on Long Island and culminated when he was honored with the title “Lord of the Patriarchate” by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
