Bolsonaro mocks Amber Heard after conviction in action by Johnny Depp

by

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) used social media on Monday night (1st) to mock actress Amber Heard, 36, ordered to pay US$ 8.35 million (R$ 40.1 million) to her ex-husband. Johnny Depp, 58, for defamation. The actor was also ordered to pay her $2 million (R$9.6 million) on the same charge.

Bolsonaro resgatou uma postagem feita no Twitter pela americana em 2018, quando ele ainda era candidato. The “Aquaman” star released a text from the New York Times, in which Bolsonaro was cited as someone who “flirted with the dark days” of the Military Dictatorship (1964-1985), using the hashtag #EleNão.

After the result of this Wednesday’s trial (1st), the president responded to the publication of almost four years ago with an image in which he himself appears looking at a cell phone and apparently being surprised by the news. This is a very popular meme on social media.

The publication divided opinion, with supporters of the president reveling in the response. “Revenge is a dish that is eaten cold”, commented Monica Machado, who defines herself on the social network as “Catholic, pro-life and Bolsonarista”.

On the other hand, there were those who thought that Bolsonaro should spend his time on more relevant issues. “Reading your tweets, we even think that the country is being managed well, right?” wrote Josias Jorge. “There’s plenty of time. Go to work, my lord!”

AMBER VERSUS DEPP

After six weeks of trial with evidence and witnesses, the jury ruled in favor of Johnny Depp, 58, in the defamation suit he was bringing against ex-wife Amber Heard, 36, who accused him of domestic violence. The reading of the verdict took place on the afternoon of this Wednesday (1st), the third day of deliberation.

The reading was taken in front of Heard, who followed along with his lawyers and kept his eyes down and his features weeping the entire time. Depp did not attend due to commitments he had already established in the UK. He even performed twice with guitarist Jeff Beck in the last few days.

Under the ruling, Depp was to receive US$10 million (R$48.1 million) in compensatory damages and US$5 million (R$24 million) in punitive damages. But the actress won part of the lawsuit and, for that, would receive US$ 2 million (R$ 9.6 million), for Depp’s lawyer having accused her of making up a story for the police under the direction of her lawyer and publicist.

According to TMZ, in addition, the judge in the case reduced the punitive damages to $5 million for Johnny, as Virginia law limits punitive damages in these cases. As a result, the compensation that the actor is expected to receive from the actress was US$ 8.35 million (R$ 40.1 million).
