Amber Heard Responds to Johnny Depp: ‘Women’s Rights Are Rewinding’

A spokesperson for actress Amber Heard, 36, said women’s rights are taking a backseat as Johnny Depp, 58, moves forward. The message is a response to a video of the actor thanking fans for their support on TikTok.

“As Johnny Depp says he is ‘forging ahead’, women’s rights are taking a step backwards. The message of the verdict for victims of domestic violence is … be afraid to stand up, stand up and speak up,” the spokesperson said.

Depp decided to create a TikTok profile after winning the defamation trial against his ex-wife. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star arrived on the social network this Monday (6) and has already accumulated 5.2 million followers.

Depp joined the platform after receiving great support from fans and netizens during the process with videos posted on the network. YouTube channels and TikTok accounts dedicated to commenting on legal matters or analyzing body language began to mass serve Depp-friendly content.

As the entire process was televised, a lot of material was made available to internet users and was used, especially in favor of the actor and against Heard. The actress even said that she felt humiliated and faced hundreds of death threats daily after her testimony.

Depp emerged victorious from the defamation trial he disputed with ex-wife Amber Heard, but he will not get the R$50 million (R$240 million) compensation he asked for in the lawsuit. The final value was US$ 8.35 million (R$ 40 million).
