by

The cost of the works is very high and amounts to 1.8 million euros, with the financing of the Attica Region.

An emblematic building complex for Hornythe “Bia House”, will be reborn by the municipality of Lavreotiki in order to be a monument and cultural landmark for the whole region. The restoration work that will be done is many and specialized, as in addition to the restoration of static adequacy, architectural details and the reconstruction of the interiors, “House Bia” had an interior painting decoration (murals and ceiling paintings), which also will be restored, as well as all the individual characteristic points, such as the ornate marble balcony, the decorative facade mortars, the traditional decorative tile floor, the decorative elements of masonry bricks, the marble wine press, the traditional hearth (fireplace) etc. .

For this reason, after all cost of work is particularly high and amounts to 1.8 million euros, with the funding of the Attica Region. The relevant program contract was signed a few days ago by the mayor Dimitris Loukas and the regional governor George Patoulis. With the end of the works and the rebirth of the building, the creation of a Folklore Museum for the whole Mediterranean region will begin there.

The three buildings of the “Bia House”

The “Bia House” had passed years ago in the municipality and has been declared a protected monument, however it shows all the signs of abandonment. It is located in the historical core of Keratea and was built in the late 19th to early 20th century.

It is essentially a building complex, as it consists of three independent foundation buildings. Building A is the main building of the complex, with the use of a “mansion” without a basement. The ground floor is 40% covered by a single room, with fireplace and bathroom. The rest is free. The floor has two main rooms, facing north and west, with an ornate marble balcony. It has an elongated vestibule, which faces south and serves as a recreation area. On the same side there is the bathroom. This building is characterized as a “mansion”, due to its special architecture and construction value.

Building B was used as a residence and is an elevated ground floor with a semi-basement space. The semi-basement is an open space without partitions, it has access from the north side with an external outdoor staircase. The elevated ground floor of building B, has two main rooms, with fireplaces, kitchen and bathroom. The access of building B is made from the inner east side of the courtyard, through an open staircase from full-length marble stairs.

Building C used a wine press with a “press”. It is an elevated ground floor and is divided into two large rooms. One room was the grape press, with the famous marble wine production system. The workshop is characterized by its hygienic constructions, with the marble floor, the ortho-marbles, with marble must containers, marble benches, with the hoes, the taps, etc. The other room, larger in size, was a place of storage and stay of the submissives. It is characterized by the traditional absorbent floor, pressed mortar, with a mixture of aggregates, soil and synthetic material. The space is also characterized by the popular type fireplace, which it has.

D. Loukas in APE-BPE: “Promoting the history of the region itself”

So one easily understands, both the high architectural aesthetics of the complex, and its cultural value. And this is exactly what the mayor of Lavreotiki, Dimitris Loukas, says in APE-MPE. It specifically says:

“It is one of the most important works, because it has elements of the history of the place. It is an old mansion of the last century in the urban fabric of Keratea. With old but rich decoration, with a well, with a loggia, with a press, with a marble balcony, with roof paintings inside, which will be restored. It is preserved, but all these years it was abandoned. It will be restored and restored, so that it emerges as a historic building and then houses the Folklore of Museums of all the Mediterranean “.

Regarding the creation of the museum, Mr. Loukas explains: “Keratea and Lavreotiki in general, have local and cultural associations, which have a rich material of household items, items used in agriculture and animal husbandry, clothing and so much but. So all this needs a roof, because it is worth exposing. The clubs, but also the residents, have already agreed to offer them and we will create the most suitable space in the Bia House. It will be a Folklore Museum, which does not exist in the wider area and so the building complex will be highlighted culturally. It will of course increase the traffic, but it will also highlight the place historically “.

At this point he adds: “So it is a very important project, because it is not just the restoration of a building, but the history of the area itself, since it is an emblematic part of it.”

In the end, the mayor of Lavreotiki refers to the contribution of the Attica Region, saying: “Its assistance is very important, since without funding it would not be possible to implement this project.”

The works that are planned to be performed in the “House of Bia” are:

1. Restoration of the static adequacy of the existing constructions.

2. Reconstruction of roofs in buildings.

3. Restoration of the existing painting decoration.

4. Restoration of the architectural details of the buildings.

5. Reconstruction of the interiors of the buildings.

6. Construction of electrical installation.

7. Construction of data network (DATA) and telecommunications network.

8. Installation of a central management system for the functions of the buildings.
