“Juneteeth”: Google celebrates Freedom Day

The “Juneteenth »an annual federal holiday that celebrates liberation of black slaves in the United States honors Google today.

Like today in 1865, over 250,000 slaves in Galveston, Texas have been releasedmarking the official end of the Civil War.

Although the Declaration of Emancipation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in early 1863, many black Americans were enslaved in the westernmost federal states, such as Texas.

THE General Granger and his Union troops went to Texas and issued General Decree No. 3, which announced the news of the Declaration.

Upon hearing the news, the former slaves became free Americans by executive order, and many emigrated north in search of new lives and in the hope of reuniting their families that had been torn apart by slavery.

The Juneteenth was done Texas public holiday in 1980. When Juneteenth was officially named a national federal holiday in June 2021, the city of Galveston dedicated a mural 5,000 square feet entitled “Absolute Equality” near the site where General Granger announced his new freedom.

Across the country, Black Americans celebrate him with parades, rallies, and marches honoring the struggles of those who preceded him and the future of those who continue to move forward.
